2018 is violet. Actually, ultra violet. This is this year’s colour according to Pantone, the American cult company that every year announces the trendiest colour for the following year.

Last year, it was Greenery, a bright acid green that really did part opinions: we’ve been talking about I ta lot on my blog. The years before we had Rose Quarz and Serenity, two delicate and spiritual shades that made us dream and rest. And Ultra Violet seems to fit this trend, that keeps disappearing and coming back like the tide.

Key words are self-care, calm, spirituality, positive thinking, beauty and extravagance. All of this through a perfect mix between reddish violet and deep indigo purple. Therefore, there’s a lot of blue, a bit of red and a bit of periwinkle.

This is not for sure a common hue. Thus, you can take it as a chance to test your (and your closet’s) ability to adapt to new trends. Keep this in mind: this colour’s aim is that of bringing back balance to our everyday life. Therefore, get ready to fill up your closets with purple pieces and your houses with purple tapestry and accessories.

If we must be honest, something was noticeable even since Spring Summer 2018 fashion shows, thanks to all the purple and all the pink worn by Victoria Beckham, Carolina Herrera and Alexander Wang. As a matter of fact Ultra Violet is already very popular among beauty addicts.

As regards us, it won’t be hard (or unpleasant) to follow this trend: all you need is a violet nail polish, a pair of funny boots, a maxi purple sweater by H&M or a super velvet pleated piece by Zara. That’s all! If your style is a bit more traditional, remember you can go for a violet lipstick or eye-shadow.

There are many you can choose among, like this one by Mac, which for me is simply a must-have. Remember that violet enhances green eyes and, together with mascara, can give your eyes an incredible depth. The only side effect? This colour is off limits if you have bags under your eyes. Never forget: purple calls purple.
