Yes, I’m talking about them. Your grandma’s brooches. Lovely, vintage, apparently useless and thus even more irresistible. Pins. Let me tell you, they won’t make you look like an old aunt. In 2018 you’ll see many of them. Precious, funny, kitsch, with logos, decorative, exaggerated, romantic, lettering inspired, gothic and pop.

here’s no rule as regards which one to choose. Pins have a great asset: they can complete any look and sometimes they can even give back life to pieces that had already lost their allure. Taking a first glance at the catwalks it looks like that the most trendy ones will be outstanding models, full of sequins and pearls. But you shouldn’t ignore even the most modern models, with emoticons and drawings. You should absolutely check out sets of pins created to be worn all together, like happy and colourful constellations.

For example, let these wonderful sets by Mango inspire you. There are no rules as how to wear them but creativity is a must have, otherwise what would you even wear them for? Pins are perfect on a jacket or on a coat, on a classical hat and even on backpacks. Otherwise, an old tradition, you could use them to tie your scarf or your jacket: super romantic. A very popular kind is represented by those that remind of military logos or those that look like bows or cockades (an iconic one is this one by Gucci). They give light to any jacket and can make it both elegant and funny.

Logos, of course, are a huge trend: for example, check out this golden crocodile by Yves Saint Laurent, or the beautiful double G by Gucci covered in crystals. As regards lettering you can let yourself go: among the silver pieces by Tiffany made with Paloma Picasso’s writing, I love this one inspired by New York’s graffiti, with the images of heart and arrows merging, but also this one, perfect for Valentine’s day, with the word Love. If you own an old pair oh jeans or an old denim jacket, you can bring new life to them with funny and cheap pins, like these ones by OVS in several colours and shapes. Wonderful, mostly on a dark coat’s collar, the evergreen sailor anchor. And don’t forget the animalier trend, that plays a fundamental role even as regards pins. The most desired piece is this seahorse by Tiffany. Less expensive and still very charming, check out the exotic and colourful animals by Tenye. In particular, I like the little bird, the Indian elephant (even provided with a canopy) and the bee, full of sequins. If you can afford something more expensive, there’s is this design elephant, by Tiffany, very nice in pink gold with diamonds. And finally, here is my favourite pin at the moment, the flowery brooch. As regards this field, I would say that Chanel’s black camellia is just the best. Timeless, elegant, perfect on a with t-short, maybe paired with a pearl necklace. For an outstanding, modern and classy look.
