For this week I decided to investigate about one of this year’s coolest make-up products: micellar water. They describe it as the solution to every problem, the most transversal and genial make-up products, capable of making all of our lives much easier. Is that really so? And what are the differences among all the different brands? Here is, just for you, a tiny guide to better understand this world and learn how to choose the perfect micellar water for you. First of all: what are we talking about? Micellar water didn’t become a must-have product for no reason.

Basically, it is both a cleanser and a make-up remover, and it doesn’t even need to be washed off. Moreover, this product if famous because it respects your skin pH more than many other similar products. Thus, it is more delicate, quick to use and with an immediate effect. Here’s how it works: its formula (which, though, is different depending on the specific product) is composed of non-foamy surfactant that create “micels”, which are small spheres that get tied to make-up and dirt and remove everything in few seconds.

No pity for pollution, impurities and toxins. Apparently this purifying quality is so efficient that the old concept of “make-up remover” is being rediscussed. This means, though, that even micellar water has its dose of “aggressiveness”. Of course, anyway, the wide range of different products makes this treatment possible even for the most sensitive skins. Consider that a high-quality water would contain as few ingredients as possible, in order to avoid irritating your skin. Before buying it, make sure it doesn’t contain petrolatum, silicon or parabens, that obstruct pores. Moreover, according to beauty bloggers, micellar water is mostly great in summer. Thanks to its freshness, it lets you take off your make-up after long nights out and get back in the sun with a perfectly clean skin.

That’s not all: thanks to its skin-soothing and calming properties, micellar water decreases the risk and the effect of sun-burns. The magical ingredients for summer are aloe, cornflower and calendula. All you have to do is looking for water containing all of them. A very suggested product is the Defence water by Bionike, among the best around, perfect even for very delicate skins and enriched with rosewater, with refreshing and calming properties. Remember that H20 by Bioderma is the star among micellar waters, mostly since when MUA started using it during fashion shows. Apparently one bottle is sold every five seconds!

I’ve also tried the one by Biotherm and I’ve loved it mostly for its almond perfume. But the best fragrance is the one by Garancia, efficient, sweet and inebriating all at the same time. If you love rose, you should try Nuxe (a company I love and that, according to me, is not enough known). Most of all, remember: micellar water doesn’t need to be washed off. And if you learn to use it with regularity, you’ll be done with two unbearable problems of just cleaned skin: the oily effect and that, maybe even worse, of stretched skin. Super easy, super cool.
