Those of you who live in Milan and those of you who sometimes go there, either for work or for fun, you should all spoil yourself having dinner at Sakana Sushi (via Giambellino 56), where the Chinese chef living in Milan Yujia Hu works. Even Vogue has talked about him, he has 35K followers on Instagram (where you can find him as theonigiriart) and the ability to mix his love for good cuisine with his love for fashion. How? Well, some years ago he had a genial idea. “I was trying to find something that helped me promote my activity, therefore I started creating iconic images putting together the ingredients we use for our cuisine”, he stated.

Among his coolest creations you can find Gucci’s moccasins, Vans’ Old School model, North Face’s jackets and Robe di Kappa’s tracksuits.

The ingredients of such iconic pieces are salmon, tuna, rice and alga, that Hu’s magical hands can turn in tiny and tasty works of art. Moreover, they say he is very fast (which is a fundamental asset when you own a restaurant). Clothes and accessories require from 15 to 30 minutes. But there also are wonderful depictions of famous faces: the fashion designer Riccardo Tisci, the dj Steve Aoki, the rapper Eminem and even Chiara Ferragni and Fedez.

The idea blew up in 2015, when Hu started posting pictures of his works on his Instagram profile. Soon after, he started receiving the first commitments, both coming from agencies and from private buyers: clients are ready to pay from 100 up to 500 euros for one of these tiny sushi-made jewels. His most famous pieces are shoeshis, iconic models of shoes made of sushi. They are very required but also very difficult to prepare, therefore by now Yujia Hu only makes them if booked.

Number one shoeshis are the great basketball shoes by Air Jordan; but you can also find Converse, Stan Smiths by Adidas, Fendi’s boots, Dolce&Gabbana’s decolletés and even the super glamorous shoes by the Malaysian designer Jimmy Choos Yeang Keat. I must say that eating a pair of designer shoes is definitely worthy it. Delicious both for the eyes and for the mouth.
